Over the last several years, I have lost sight of myself. I was always an athletic, active person. I was a dancer starting at age two and into my twenties. I have many old injuries from being a competitive dancer. 10 years ago, I had a spinal fusion due to bulging, degenerative discs. Because of this, I have little feeling in my left foot, a foot drop, and trouble balancing on my left side. More recently, I have been dealing with some health issues. I was diagnosed with Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome (PCOS) about a year ago, and the side effects of this have caused significant weight gain, hair loss, and just an overall hormone imbalance. It also doesn’t help that I work a stressful 9-5 job.

In April, I decided to really dive in and start taking care of myself, mind & body. I’m so glad that I found Freedom Fitness & Yoga when I did. My first class was Big Beautiful Yoga (BBY). I love the thought behind this class. Yoga can be for all bodies! As women, we have boobs, bellies, & butts that can get in the way of traditional yoga poses. Bobbi-Jo provides AMAZING modifications for everyone in the BBY class. There’s a core group of us BBY gals and it has been truly amazing to see what each of our bodies can do! My own body has changed in such a short time. I have also fallen in love with the Yoga Nidra class on Tuesday nights. Yoga Nidra is a guided sleep meditation that leaves you feeling incredible. I have never experienced anything like it. Shonda is wonderful! This one hour a week has greatly helped me to empty my thoughts and bring my stress levels down. I feel so rejuvenated and rested after each session.

The mental benefits of getting into a yoga practice have been life changing. I am a much happier person, I have so much more energy, am more focused than ever, and my stress levels are way down! The physical benefits are great as well as I’m down a total of 27 pounds. I am also seeing more response from the muscles in my left foot and better balance on that side. For too long, I let my fear of getting injured again keep me from being the active person I once was. I am beginning to realize that I am capable of way more than I give myself credit for. I am so excited to push myself harder and see where this journey takes me! I am so blessed to have Bobbi-Jo and my Freedom family in my life. From the bottom of my yogi heart, I thank you all!
